Sasando, Nusa Tenggara Timur Music

Sasando is a stringed musical instrument or cordophone type musical instrument. It comes from the island of Rote, East Nusa Tenggara Indonesia. The most southern island in Indonesia archipelago. Sasando word comes from Rote word sasandu. It means vibrant instrument. Sasando form is similar to other stringed instruments such as guitar, violin and harp.

The main part of the long tubular Sasando commonly made from bamboo. Then in the middle, circling from top to bottom is placed some lumps in which the strings that stretched across the tube, from top to bottom resting. The wedge gives different tone to each passage of the string. Then this Sasando tube placed in a container

Gathot, Unique Food of GunungKidul

               Gunung Kidul which is located in Yogyakarta province, is well known as a barren area. But if you have visited Gunung Kidul, you must be fascinated by the beauty of the beaches.  A topic which will be discussed is culinary from Gunung Kidul which is known as Gatot.

               Gatot is typical snack of Gunung Kidul. Local people usually enjoy Gatot during tea time or when receiving guest. In the past, Gatot was only made for private consumption, but now it has become a selling commodity. Today, Gatot is sold at traditional markets or central's souvenirs of Gunung Kidul.

Kulintang, 4 world Noble Records of Indonesia

           Kolintang , music instrument originated from Minahasa, a place in North Sulawesi, an island in the east part of Indonesia. It is made from light but solid local wood such as TELUR, BANDARAN, WENANG, KAKINIK whose fibre construction appears in parallel lines. It can produce a long sound which can reach high pitch note as well as low pitch note when struck.

              The name Kolintang came from the sound: TONG (low pitch note), TING (high pitch note) and TANG (moderate pitch note). In the local language, the invitation “Let us do some TONG TING TANG” is: “Mangemo kumolintang”. That settled the name of the instrument: KOLINTANG.
               In its early days, Kolintang originally consisted of only a series of wooden bars placed side by side in a row on the legs of the players who would sit on the floor with both of their legs stretched out in front of them. Later on, the function of the legs was replaced either by two poles of banana trunk or by a rope which hung them up to a wooden plank. Story says that resonance box was beginning to be attached to this instrument after DIPONEGORO, a prince from Java who was exiled to Minahasa, brought along Javanese instrument GAMELAN with its resonance box, GAMBANG.

History of Batik

Batik is historically derived from ancestors, known since the seventeenth century, written and painted on palm leaves. At the moment motif batik pattern is still dominated by forms of animals and plants. But in its development history of batik have evolved, from painting motifs of animals and plants gradually turn to the abstract patterns that resemble a cloud, temple reliefs, wayang beber and so forth. Furthermore, through the merger of the painting with the art of decorating style clothing, batik art show as we know it today.

The type and style of traditional batik quite so much, but the patterns and variations in accordance with the philosophy and culture of each region are very diverse. Indonesia's cultural treasures so rich nation has been driving styles and types of batik tradisioanal with the characteristics of specialty themselves.

Indrayanti Beach, Natural Scene of Gunung Kidul

                         
                  Indrayanti beach become an alternative place to spend a family vacation, even this white sand beach is not as popular like other beaches. There are lodging facilities that have been built there. If you bring a family to spend the night, an area of 4x5 meter wooden huts can be rented. Terrace overhanging the beach. Want to swim? jump to live alone, or just want to get lazy just sitting quietly reading a book while occasionally hear southern ocean waves. If you want to stay in hotels, you must book a place one month earlier. However, if lodging is full, do not worry because it can set up tents around the coast. Sloping plateau wide enough there, warm white sand floors. Some pandanus thatched gazebo has been prepared to pamper guests playing on the beach. The enchantment of Indrayanti beach can be enjoyed not only during the daytime. If the weather is sunny, you can enjoy the sunset at dusk. At night, fire dots coming from lantern / torch of  sailing fisherman will give you  a unique atmosphere in Indrayanti Beach.

What..?? "GARBAGE DRINK"('Wedang Uwuh:Java')

In the Javanese word, 'uwuh' means rubbish. And 'wedang' is like a hot drink. So, if we compare the two words, the meaning becomes rubbish drink. How is scary?
But, don't be suspicious first. This is not the real rubbish, like waste paper or waste vegetables. It's only a name which represents the wedang uwuh made by much kind of herbs, as clove, lime leave, secang, nutmeg and cinnamon. All put in a glass, look like a rubbish bin.


              Wedang uwuh made by local people from a local area named Imogiri, south Jogjakarta city. It's kind a unique and traditional drink from the ancient time. There are no sources which explained about the creator of the herbs. It's just like another popular drinks like 'wedang ronde' (drink made by roasted peanut), wedang jahe (drink made by ginger) and many others.

Pendet, Scene Dance of Bali


Tari Pendet or Pendet Dance is a traditional dance from Bali Indonesia that was originally a dance of religious worship. Tari Pendet is used to play in a Hindu's Temple in Bali. This dance symbolizes the reception on the descent of gods into the earth. Lately, over the development period, the Bali artists change this dance to be a welcome dance although it still contains of sacred-religious symbols
